Progression Search and the year 2021
For the most part, 2021 has been quite good for us. It’s still far from being an ultimate wonderful year, but we had some wins, and we are still here; given the current situation, it’s more than enough.
It’s still quite surreal that we’re already at the tail end of 2021. I still remember the paranoia and buzz surrounding 2012 and the Mayan calendar. To cap the year off, we asked our colleagues what they would want to leave behind coming to the next year of 2022.
Here are some of the things that have come up:
Burnout
In the last two years, the feeling of burnout has been more prevalent than before the pandemic. For some, the lack of genuine interactions between colleagues, especially the inability to connect physically and the prolonged restrictions on mobility takes a toll.
Anxiety
Anxiety is no fun. Worse, if you are not familiar with your triggers, almost anything can pull the rug under your feet. The uncertainty of the current situation doesn’t help either. After reading good news and some semblance that we are heading towards endemic, you’ll hear about a new variant looming over us again. And then the anxiety cycles continue to turn.
Health Scares
A colleague of mine said that having a family with small kids, it’s always nerve-wracking to be visiting a doctor during a pandemic. That being said, ignorance is no fun either. She’d rather go through the tensed-up drive to the doctor and heave a sigh of relief than neglect a relatively common symptom and be sorry in the end.
U-turns
Being in this business for as long as we have, we’ve seen our fair share of U-turns (candidates who accept an offer and decide to rescind a week or two later). Not to normalize them in any way, but U-turns are a waste of time, everyone’s time. And if you are the candidate doing a U-turn from a Job Offer, this decision will haunt you sooner than you think.
Masks & Sanitizers
While we have been accustomed to hand sanitizers before, it’s nothing compared to how much we sanitize nowadays. And while we know and fully understand the importance of wearing your masks, we cannot deny that it can be pretty uncomfortable if you wear them for prolonged periods.
So as we draw close to the end of 2021, we hope we are ushering in 2022 with aspirations of a great year and an end to COVID-19.
